Obviously this unit isn't for commercial use. It it was, they'd give you a 2-3 yr warranty. But only 1 year...and that's from date of purchase. If they replace it 51 weeks after your orginal purchase, you only got 1 week warranty on the new one...Then if it craps out, they'll tell you they no longer have parts for it and you have to buy a new model......So be it, the thing works,,,,just not very long...Long, sorta if your lucky, but not very, as the prior reviews point out, the rubber seals are only good for so long.. Replace them 2 twice and you can bet the unit has 1 foot in the grave.......My Pro II is my 2nd unit, this is the 2nd time I had to replace the botton seal, but the first for the top, so I wasn't familiar with how it worked....I put my trust with Customer Service who sold me both the top seal assembly (held in with 4 screws and the lower seal and the bottom seal,which you just stick in. Turned out, the top sealing assembly they sent me wasn't the right part or I'd never known I could of just order just the seal too...Upon talking with customer service they advised me they'd re-send me just the upper seal and credit me back the money I spent on the whole upper seal assembly...I thought that was nice, but I can't figure out why they didn't tell me I could replace the seal for almost nothing vs $10 for the upper seal assembly. They're not hesitant to spend your money, that's for sure.
Buyers Beware - If the unit breaks after the warrantee expires you throw the unit in the trash. The company does not service or provide parts for their products. I can't believe it. I bought the most expensive unit. I'll never buy another product from this company again!
I recently upgraded from the Professional II to the Professional III Plus, and it has been a total disaster. The first one that I received would seal the bag but the lid then would not release. I had to unplug the unit, then plug it back in to release the sealed bag. I returned the machine and was sent a second. This one sealed the bags and released them, but would not vacuum. The motor came on, but no vacuum. I returned it and was sent a third. The bags on this unit sealed, but not even the vacuum motor worked. I am returning this machine tomorrow. I have owned FoodSaver machines for over ten years and never had a problem before. What has happened? Where is the quality control? I am astonished that 3 out of 3 of these Professional III Plus machines were defective. Now what? What can I buy that works?

I bought the Pro III, two years ago. It worked well, till the teflon tape covering the sealing heat bar tore. I called foodsaver at the customer service number, and they informed me I could not buy the tape, nor would they repair the unit. I was told they would give me a $20.00 trade-in allowance, on a new unit for only 259.95. What a Deal!! They do not repair any items. If the unit is less than one year old, they replace it...more than one year old, its junk. Tells you alot about a company, that will not repair their own top-of -the -line model. Never will I purchase an other foodsaver or anything else from the Tila company. I now have a very expensive door stop!
I have the Pro II model of this Foodsaver vacuum system. It worked well for a couple of years of moderate use, but then the foam gasket, which is 1/2 inch thick became too compressed, and that blows the heck out of your vacuuming power. No information whatsoever in their documentation as to what to do, but I took the gasket out and washed and dried it and replaced it. It works for a while but then becomes compressed again. So I tried to order a couple of replacements ($1.00 each) which is a very cheap way to fix this problem. however, they sent me a flimsy 1/4 inch gasket which is a joke and does not work in the Pro II model. It only cost $1.00 but the shipping was $3.00. Customer Service tries to lay it off on the bags, even though I use Foodsaver bags. Worst thing is, they won't have any of those thicker gaskets for months. It really annoys me that a product's performance relies entirely on a cheap piece of foam that can break down so easily and render the entire machine useless--and they don't stock the darn replacements! Hence the poor rating for this product.
We've owned a FoodSaver Pro III for about three years now, and it is used daily, often several times a day. Most of our use is not to vacuum seal food in FoodSaver bags, but to reseal commercial packages of chips, crackers, cereal, pretty much everything. Used this way, with the Manual Seal button, the air is not vacuumed out (imagine vacuuming out all the air from a bag of potato chips -- you'd end up with a brick of potato flour). The food stays fresh and crisp for much longer than if you opened the package and used some sort of clip to close it again. In three years we've probably paid for the unit in food that we haven't had to discard.
We do use the vacuum sealing function, with the special bags, and that works very well.
We definitely recommend the product.
When our old Foodsaver, which was made by Tilia, finally died we decided to upgrade. This "professional" model worked for less than 4 months when it gave up the ghost. The company will only "repair" it--no replacement.
And, that's at my expense to ship this lemon back to them.
Foodsaver is no longer the quality product it used to be, nor do you get the same level of customer service as before.
When our old foodsaver died, we decided to go with the professional series since we buy meat in bulk and vacuum pack it. This lasted about a year when the lower gasket started falling apart and the sealer stopped working. When my husband called for a replacement foam gasket from the only company that sells parts for these machines, and he was specific about which one (the bottom gasket), they sent us the gasket for the top. When we called "the only parts company that carries foodsaver parts", they said they don't make gaskets for the bottom portion only the top. So, in short, if you want an expensive sealer that they don't even carry parts for, go ahead and buy this. Otherwise, go with a less expensive one that can be thrown out or go with another brand altogether.
Our FoodSaver Pro III Series worked great for ONE year and ONE month! Loved it's performance, however, we are not impressed regarding its durability after paying about $190 with only a year warranty....
After using it sparingly 2-3 times per month, we just tried to seal and vacuum a few items today and a huge electrical spark came out of the left side of the unit, and it was dead--and in the garbage. Talk about planned obsolescence!!!!
Cannot afford to buy a new one every year! Would NOT buy another one!
I love this product. It's the third FoodSaver Pro vaccum sealer I have owned over the past 15 years and I use it almost everyday. Saves me money and keeps food fresh. I prefer the Pro series as it is heavy duty and best for everyday use.

Thanks for your thoughtful comment. I probably should have mentioned how nice it is to cut into a waxed cheese and peel it off to find the treasure within. Also, when you give a waxed cheese as a gift, it's so impressive!
